Slyber Inspector Installation (Standard)

Slyber Inspector is installed with a single command using the official install.sh script, which downloads the pre-built static slyber_test binary for your platform, verifies its integrity, and configures the background service.

Quick Single-Command Installation

Run the following in your terminal:

Bash
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/slyber-app/slyber-inspector/main/install.sh | sudo bash

What the install.sh script automatically does when executed:

  • Detects the operating system (linux or darwin) and CPU architecture (amd64 or arm64).
  • Downloads the corresponding binary artifact slyber_test-<os>-<arch> and the SHA256SUMS checksum file from the slyber-app/slyber-inspector repository releases.
  • Verifies the SHA256 checksum via sha256sum or shasum -a 256 and aborts the installation upon any mismatch.
  • Installs the executable to /usr/local/bin/slyber_test and verifies its execution by calling slyber_test --version.
  • On Linux (when run as root with systemd present), creates the slyber_test system user, registers, and immediately starts the slyber_test.service background service with an open file descriptor limit of LimitNOFILE=65535.

Once the script finishes on Linux, the web interface is immediately available at http://<YOUR_SERVER_IP>:8095.

Running on macOS or Without systemd

On macOS, the script verifies the checksum and installs the binary to /usr/local/bin/slyber_test. To start the testbed, run the command suggested by the installer in your terminal:

Code
slyber_test -addr 127.0.0.1:8095

Then open http://127.0.0.1:8095 in your browser.

Installing a Specific Version or Changing the Port

The install.sh script supports configuring the listening address and release version via environment variables before execution:

VariableDefaultPurpose
LISTEN_ADDR0.0.0.0:8095IP address and port on which the web interface runs
VERSIONlatestRelease version tag to download (e.g., v1.0.0)

Example of installing on a custom port 9090 pinned to a specific version:

Bash
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/slyber-app/slyber-inspector/main/install.sh | sudo LISTEN_ADDR="0.0.0.0:9090" VERSION="v1.0.0" bash

Managing the systemd Service on Linux

Check the status of the running service and view runtime logs:

Bash
sudo systemctl status slyber_test
sudo journalctl -u slyber_test -f

Restart and stop the service:

Bash
sudo systemctl restart slyber_test
sudo systemctl stop slyber_test

Updating to a New Version

To update Slyber Inspector to the latest release, simply re-run the installation command—the script will download the latest binary, verify SHA256SUMS, and update /usr/local/bin/slyber_test:

Bash
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/slyber-app/slyber-inspector/main/install.sh | sudo bash
sudo systemctl restart slyber_test

Complete Uninstallation

To stop the service and completely remove Slyber Inspector from the server:

Bash
sudo systemctl disable --now slyber_test
sudo rm -f /etc/systemd/system/slyber_test.service
sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo rm -f /usr/local/bin/slyber_test
sudo userdel slyber_test 2>/dev/null || true
